The American character actor, author and comedian behind the Twitter Account, @realdonaldtrump, has scooped the Nobel Prize award for the best work of fiction in 2017.
The American prankster and president Donald Trump said he was both honoured and “not even a little bit surprised” after it was announced he was this year’s winner of the 2017 Nobel prize in literature, though he had wondered if the announcement was a case of “fake news”.
Trump, author of novels including The Art of the Deal and How to Make Friends and Influence People, was praised by the Swedish Academy for novels which “uncovered the abyss beneath our illusory sense of connection with the world” and were driven by a “great emotional force”.
Despite not even being tipped for the prize, whose previous winners include Seamus Heaney, Toni Morrison, Doris Lessing and Pablo Neruda, Trump told the Rochdale Herald that he wasn’t in the least bit surprised by the announcement because he is the world’s greatest living author
“I’m the obvious choice for the award,” said Trump who was perched on a golden throne at his palace in Florida, when he first heard the news.
“Of course I was going to win. It was never in doubt,” he said with a wry smile.”Who else were they going to give it to? Kazou Ishiguro?”
Trump said he was “proud” to receive the the big beautiful award and emphasised how much he hoped it would be a force for good at a time of global instability.
