Over the weekend the actor and “comedian” Jack Whitehall took to social media to address rumours that he might play Idris Elba in the upcoming Idris Elba biopic.

On Sunday morning, Whitehall posted a series of photos on his Twitter account in black face igniting the conversation over whether or not he’s star in the upcoming Elba project.

In his first tweet on the topic, Whitehall shared a grainy photo of himself with the caption, “My name’s Elba, Idris Elb,” and his fan, thought to be his mum, responded by saying “that’s nice dear.”

Wanting Jack Whitehall to play the role of a large attractive man of colour his Mum said “Oh please God YESSSS!!!!” and “he better not be teasing us!”

A source close to the comedian said “some people think that Jack Whitehall doesn’t have the acting chops to play a large, suave and frankly beautiful black man.”

“Well frankly that’s ridiculous, it’s just acting, he can pretend to be anybody he wants to be. Jack has a huge range of acting skills in his arsenal. Slightly effete gay guy, slightly effete straight guy, slightly effete sexually ambiguous guy and large and frankly magnetically sexual heterosexual black man.”

“He’s very talented.”Idris Elba is said to be thrilled by the casting choice.
