A local woman has won Rochdale’s coveted “Most Middle Class Comment 2016” at a dinner party this weekend.

Barbara Dickinson was attending a dinner party at a friend’s second holiday home (well, strictly speaking third) when she dropped an absolute belter over smoked salmon and Prosecco.

The conversation had turned to Arabella and Rupert’s recent trip to a Michelin starred restaurant when Arabella started discussing Lakeland’s range of tin foil and kitchen roll.

Rupert was questioning the choices he’d made that had led him to a conversation about the merits of different brands of tin foil when Arabella said;

“Lakeland make the best kitchen foil, if I buy kitchen foil it has to be from Lakeland.”

When Barbara replied with;

“I’m like that with M & S Tatziki.”

The other guests knew immediately that history had been made. It took adjudicators from Rochdale’s Women’s Institute less than ten minutes to reach a unanimous decision.

The winner from 2015 was;

“Our house has its own postcode, it would be handy but it takes you to the wrong gatehouse.”
