Jesus of Nazareth rejects will of people and refuses to die
On 23 June 33AD, the lawful Government represented by Pontius Pilate asked the people whether Jesus of Nazareth should be released or die. Asked to put a cross in a box to decide whether he should be put on a cross and then in a box, the vote was clear.
“Leave! Leave him up on a cross to die!”
The public had spoken. But Pilate asked them once more, whether they would like clemency. “Which one do you want me to release to you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?”
“BA Baracus! I pity the fool!” They shouted, for they believed him a member of a crack commando unit sent to prison by a military court for a crime he did not commit.
And so, the middle eastern looking leftie was sentenced to death, for they hated him even more than the black man (at that particular moment in history). For the people were very cross. And 52% of them had spoken.
And lo, although he had been encouraged by the thief next to him to always look on the bright side of life, Jesus did appear to die. Or at least come very close to dying.
Contemporary accounts vary. Some disciples said he should not die unless he could be sure of a Union with the Lord, as was Custom. Others said No Deal was necessary, so as to ensure complete crucification.
But in the end, Jesus rejected the will of the people. For He is Risen.
