Snowboarding bronze medallist Billy Morgan carried the EU flag instead of the Union Jack at the Winter Olympics closing ceremony on Sunday.

Morgan, 28, won bronze in the men’s big air on Saturday to take Team GB to their record tally of five medals.

“I’m pretty nervous just thinking about carrying the flag but I’m sure it’s going to be amazing,” Morgan said.

“The Olympics is all about unity and shared experience and nothing says unity and shared experience quite like the EU. We’re still part of the European Union so technically it’s still our flag.”

“The Russians won’t have to carry the Russian flag so why shouldn’t we carry the flag that we feel most reflects the British Olympic spirit. I learned to snowboard in France.”

“As far as I know there are no Brexiteers on the Winter Olympic Team, generally they’re too fat for skiing, too old for snowboarding or too slow for the bobsled.”

By coming third Billy became the first British man to ever win and Olympic medal on the snow.

“I still can’t believe yesterday,” Morgan said. “I never expected to win a medal before the contest and I keep forgetting I did it so it’s nice to relive it now and then, which is pretty cool.

“It’s been a crazy Games for Team GB, our best ever, so I hope everyone can go home happy. It’s been amazing for me and I’m just over the moon.”

Well done Billy you’re a legend.
