A Rochdale Chinese restaurant that served bespoke fortune cookies holding the prime minister’s slogans has abruptly closed.
The owner of the restaurant, 72 year old Benny Hill, was interviewed by the Herald’s Michelin Star correspondent to hear how it all went so wrong?
“I got the idea to open Strong and Stable Saint George and the Dragon Cuisine while attending a meeting at my local UKIP affiliated Conservative party office,” Benny explained,
“I told them I had done what I was asked and opened a Chinese restaurant to show that UKIP and its friends in government isn’t racist.
When I explained that business was pretty slow we had a brainstorming session. One guy who I’d never seen before, some guy from Bolton, pipes up and says I need a unique selling point.”
It seems the unique selling point they decided on was novelty fortune cookies containing the prime minister’s famous slogans.
“Brexit means Brexit. Strong and stable. Leave means leave. Red, white and blue Brexit. Fortune means fortune. Jump in the sea and see. Take back control. Control are boarders. We got ‘em all in. We were very pleased with ourselves. And the punters loved getting complimentary cookies, but only until they opened and read them,” Mr Hill paused to shake his head,
“I put everything I had on the line for this cuntry and now I don’t know what to do? Even the guy who supplied the slate to serve the soup dishes on is threatening to sue.”
The menu may also have contributed. Sour and sour May. Isolate Peking duck. Beef in all white bean sauce. Steak and kidney fried rice. Out means Out wings. Head in prawn crackers were just a few of the dishes dinners seemed reluctant to try.
So what next for Mr Hill?
“I don’t see as I’ve much point but to ask the bank for a bail out and open a financial services consultancy for the new wave of investment to come in 2019 called After the Horse has Bolted. Working out where to put your money after Brexit is going to be the next boom industry.”
Mr Hill then offered our correspondent one of the now infamous cookies. When opened it revealed the wise saying ‘leave means leave’ so he did.
