A recent survey of tenants living in firetrap and substandard accommodation has showed overwhelming support for abolishing laws designed to protect them.
The survey for think tank GovBalls has found that 90% of tenants would prefer to see the current EU regulations torn up post Brexit. Instead of being folded into UK law. A statement from Govballs says: “The will of the people is clear. They want anyone who cannot afford their own home to be punished. Condemned to live in fear and squalor until they work their way out of poverty or die doing so. That’s clearly what people voted for last year.”
Head of the tenants association for the Nakatomi Tower in Hounslow, Ashal Kassam, told the Herald;
“We look forward to anything that makes more money for our landlords. They are having a tough time at the moment. What with the economic slowdown that has or hasn’t happened since Brexit.”
He continued; “We thought it was great when they used that lead based paint and asbestos cladding to refurbish the halls last year. Particularly when they used the fifteen Kazak immigrants in flat 104 to complete the work. It saved them a packet.”
However, not all are so keen. One tenant told us, “It’s bad enough that I lost my security deposit once because I had a broken lightbulb. Now these bastards want to make it less costly to ensure I don’t burn to death in my bed?”
“Great, I shall happily skip along to my minimum wage, 70 hour a week job now.”
