There were furious scenes in Rochdale as a local beautician was arrested on suspicion of racism after “blacking up” unsuspecting customers.

Visitors to the day spa were outraged that “this sort of thing” was still going on and accused the owners of the Mercure Spa of “cultural appropriation” after several customers spotted people with blacked up faces drinking champagne by the pool.

Chardonnay Bowley of Falinge made the complaint during a visit on Wednesday;

“You just don’t expect to see this kind of these days. It’s absolutely disgraceful to see people blacking up for fun. There’s no reason whatsoever to be using black or brown facial products, what’s wrong with green?”

The Mercure Spa has since withdrawn the Shill Purifying Blackhead Mask (pictured) that caused the offence and will only be using seaweed based facial masks from now on to avoid further offence.
