The BBC’s all powerful pronunciation department Tuesday issued a red letter warning to reporters over mispronouncing the surname of Leader of the House of Cards Angela Leadsom, as “loathsome”.
“We realise that in the heat of the moment during live broadcasts reporters will make the odd unfortunate mispronunciation, spoonerism or lexical transposition but we call on all BBC employees to recognise that it is imperative not to say anything that could upset the people who allocate our budget,” the statement read.
Speaking to the Rochdale Herald’s newly launched live Internet radio channel earlier today the head of BBC pronunciation, Ian Tonation, stressed that previous problems over the pronunciation of the surname of Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt had been a wake up call.
“For Fucks sake we had so much shit from those twats in Whitehall over that cunt of a health secretary the last thing we need is any more fucking agro over his loathsome colleague,” he said pointing out that times had changed and governments were no longer willing to tolerate lexical lapses.
“Time was when we could get away with sniggering every time we mentioned Douglas Hurd, John Gummer or Lemsip “Cheeky Bum” Optik but it’s a whole different Ed Balls game now,” he explained.
