Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has invited Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn to front a planned reformation of his former band Nirvana.
Speaking to the Rochdale Herald’s weekly music supplement, Grohl confirmed that he had been highly impressed by Corbyn’s headlining performance at Glastonbury and felt that he was the one person who could step into the shoes of former Nirvana frontman, the late Kurt Kobain.
“Jeremy’s political vision is clearly very much one of creating Nirvana, so lexically he’s a perfect fit.” explained Grohl, pointing out that “Smells Like Teen Spirit” – could almost describe Labour’s success in appealing to younger voters. Grohl confirmed that Corbyn’s office had received the offer and promised a response this week.
“I appreciate that he has a lot on his plate what with the Labour Party almost winning the British general election, if he agrees that would be wonderful, if not then never mind.” he said, adding that he had been deeply impressed by Corbyn’s ability to command the main stage at Glastonbury, as well as his musicianship and singing ability.
“His acoustic version of Firestarter on Saturday was really something to behold.
“He was also far younger than I expected, which is no bad thing as me and Krist are both getting on a bit.” said Grohl adding that his sole criticism of the Labour leader was his haircut.
“We knew he had a beard, we are fine with that, but the ginger mop will have to go – there are limits!” he laughed.
