The verdict has been returned by the inquest into the tragic death of Will Winnet. The coroner Dr Howie Perished has ruled he was a ‘victim of his own success’.
The death of the serial competition entrant, from Fortune Avenue in Rochdale, was deemed to be caused primarily by irony.
Mr Winnet was found after neighbours heard a loud bang together with a comedically mandated tinkle of glass.
Unable to gain entry to Mr Winnet’s home, which was awarded ‘the most secure in Rochdale’ for seven consecutive years, his neighbours called the emergency services.
However, when paramedics arrived there was a further delay as they awaited the fire service to force entry to the scene.
Upon entry they discovered Mr Winnet’s body under a large wood and glass trophy cabinet. His left arm extended grasping a trophy.
The trophy is believed to be the last Mr Winnet was to win. Having been awarded to Mr Winnet for “Cabinet Maker of the Year” at the national woodwork and joinery convention.
The Coroner explained Mr Winnet died slowly after being trapped underneath the cabinet. The delay in gaining access to Mr Winnet’s home proving terminal.
It is believed the cabinet became unbalanced by the sheer weight of Mr Winnet’s success when he attempted to add the final one.
Now that the hearing has been completed, the funeral will take place in two weeks.
This is an unusual delay, but it was revealed that Mr Winnet has left instructions in his will that Alanis Morrisette should sing at the service. A request it is hoped Ms Morrisette will not find inconvenient.
