I resent the implication – said an angry Tracy Naylor, head of food entertainment at the Beeb who had agreed to meet me in this quiet city centre pub;
“Look, Cake Off was huge and now it’s gone”.
I interrupted her. You mean Bake Off? “Erm, yes” she continued taking a large swig from her glass of red, “Anyway, it was huge and now it’s gone but we need to fill that void. This a completely new show with a brand new format”.
I asked her what was different; “Well three judges for a start. Mary, probably Greg Wallace and someone black for diversity”.
Berry? I enquired; “Yeah she’s back but apart from that it’s a completely different show now. It’s all about the cake”.
I asked who’ll be presenting, her eyes widened as her swig became a gulp. “Mel and Sue” she snapped.
The Super English Cake Off is due to be aired whenever Channel 4 air The Great British Bake Off.
