Republicans and other Trump supporters are graciously admitting that perhaps they got a little carried away today after it was revealed that no evidence of criminality was found in the latest batch of Hilary Clinton emails.
“Yeah, it seems like, other than the already well worn out issue that she shouldn’t have had the server setup she had, there’s little more to say on the issue,” said Joe Plumber, a Republican voter from up-state New York, “I mean that’s bad enough but it seems as though she didn’t actually misuse the system so much as be unwise in its set up. I think we can all move on to policy differences now.”
The latest scandal came after James Comey announced he’d relaunched the investigation into Clinton’s emails when it was realised that data seized when investigating the disgraced Weiner hadn’t been reviewed in light of the case. But Mr Comey announced yesterday that there was no reason to suspect that anything of interest was present in the emails.
“Well folks it seems she’s innocent on this score.” announced Republican presidential candidate Donald J Trump Snr, “We aren’t going to continue to bang on about the emails issue now, as that would be disingenuous. Let’s just focus on the differences between our political positions and have a fair fight for the last day or so of campaigning,”
“Indeed it looks like we can put a line under this topic and move on.” said conspiracy loving radio host Alex Jones, “We stopped ranting about her health once her doctor gave her a clean bill, so it would be churlish to continue trying to insinuate that she’s corrupt now that the FBI have said there’s no evidence.”
The sentiment was echoed at Fox news by Bill O’Reilly and Newt Gingrich.
