A man who distinctly said that he’d “deal with” student debt during an interview with the NME is curious to know why everybody was under the impression that he planned to deal with student debt if he ever becomes prime minister.
Jeremy Corbyn was asked on the Andrew Marr show what he meant by “I will deal with it” in relation to the issue of student debt. His response was to say “I didn’t make a commitment to writing it off”.
Students and young people across the country were heard to collectively say “what the actual f**k is he talking about, I was definitely pretty sure he meant that he was going to wipe out student debt.”
Defending his comments Jeremy Corbyn said something along the lines of “it was an election, people say stuff all of the time” and “I wrote the manifesto in a bit of a hurry, of course it was all bollocks.”
Young people who were pretty sure that Jeremy Corbyn, peace be upon you, was absolutely definitely on their side after hearing him play the main stage at Glastonbury are likely to be a little bit disappointed by the revelation that he simply intended to give them the impression that he would do something about crippling levels of student debt rather than actually commit to doing something about crippling levels of student debt.
“Next thing you’ll be telling me is that he wants us to Leave the European Union,” one incredulous social studies student told The Rochdale Herald. “He definitely doesn’t want us to Leave the EU does he?”
