The iconic Christmas tale has been edited by the new government department to ‘instill a sense of fiscal caution’ in the nation’s youth.

The new story will see a generous Ebenezer Scrooze frittering away money on food and the poor before being visited by three cautionary ghosts, illustrating the perils of frivolous spending and is ultimately a tale about living within your means.

Speaking of the revised story, which has already been trialed in some North West schools, Education Secretary, Justine Greening said;

“This is a wonderful thing to add to the current curriculum. It will show children, especially the ones whose parents are on handouts, that you need to be sensible with your money. Especially if you can’t be bothered earning it.”

The modifications have come under heavy scrutiny from the Charles Dickins foundation and human rights activists.

A spokesman for the foundation said;

“This is an absolute ________. It’s incredibly _______ of the government to ______ works of this nature and frankly is_____!”

Unfortunately we could not publish the full statement as we were instructed by the Ministry of Truth to only show their revised version.
