The city was jubilant this morning after the news that a lengthy battle to grant one of Rochdale’s most popular locations the status as the first government sanctioned dogging site in the UK came to fruition. A petition which garnered over 100,000 local signatures is believed to have tipped the decision in Rochdale’s favour.
The location – Rydings Lane, Wardle, turn into Buckley Lane off A58 Halifax Road, follow road to end and turn right into private road then park anywhere past the second green posted camera – has been a hotspot for fans of this healthy leisure pursuit for many years but, until now, was monitored by police and those participating risked criminal charges for indecency.
Local MP Simon Danczuk, was said to be ‘buzzing, absolutely f**king buzzing’, about the decision and is set to cut the ribbon on the site at the end of August by participating in a public bukakke ceremony in the back of a SEAT Leon Estate. ‘Obviously I will be there in an official capacity, but this seemed like an excellent opportunity to engage with my constituents; which is something I’m really keen on. I’ve engaged with many of them in the past and will continue to do so in the future’, he is reported to have said.
Local councillor and well known spodge guzzler, Angie O’Gramm, who fought long and hard to swing the decision Rochdale’s way was described as ‘delighted to be the focal point of the ceremony’, during which she will receive the nut butter of around 100 proud volunteers from around the city – including Simon.
Dogging veteran Chlamydia Staines, who started the petition and is well known to countless middle aged men from the region described herself as ‘gutted’ not to be chosen as the centre-piece of the opening but added, ‘I might not be getting covered in spodge, but I have been chosen as one of the fluffers though, so I’ll still see plenty of action and I’ll make sure I help Angie clean up when she’s finished with everyone’.
