Gerry Adams is releasing a new cook book and getting a new cookery show on RTÉ. The show will be called, Gerry’s Duck a l’Orange March. It sees Adams travelling around Ireland cooking various recipes for local people.

Producer Eioghn O’Righordian said, “It shows Gerry in a totally different light. He’ll be driving round Ireland in a black cab sampling the delights of Irish produce. Viewers will see him cooking things like Beef Shin Fein which is essentially a stew with potatoes on top of it.

There’s also this thing he does where he times everything really carefully using his special timer. He’s a real perfectionist. Where Mary Beard had that big red jacket on Meet the Romans, Gerry has his huge red timer.

He even has a catchphrase, “You’ve got 3 minutes to get out of the oven”. It’s mad stuff.”

The producer also told us that Adams bits to camera will be voiced by an actor whose identity isn’t yet revealed. “It combines the best of 1980’s Gerry with the Top Gear thing with The Stig and how nobody knows his identity. It’ll be great and nostalgic for Gerry.”

Recipes on the show and in the book are said to include, a take on Pease Pudding called Pease talks; Lamb Shankhill; Troubles and squeak, Bobby Sands(wiches) and Bomb au Vin.

But it’s not just savoury. Eioghn O’Righordian said, “He does a great line in puddings. He does a great ice cream thing called a Bloody Sundae. There’s also his take on Baklava called, Balaclava where he substitutes pastry for potatoes and honey for sweet potatoes. His homemade lemon Bomb Bombs are to die for. Figuratively obviously.”

The show will air in October with Adams available for book signings in December.
