Arron Banks from Leave.EU has today clarified that he didn’t finance the vote leave campaign that the Electoral Commission has found guilty of overspending during the EU referendum campaign. He is actually being investigated by the National Crime Agency into his dealings with the Russian Government.

A spokesman said, “We want to make it clear that Mr Banks has no connection with the vote leave campaigning. He never donated any money to it and was never a part of it. He was in fact a donor for the Leave.EU campaign. This was an entirely separate campaign. Mr Banks would like it reiterated that he is actually undergoing investigation by the National Crime Agency over his links with the Russian Government.”

A Russian Government spokesman seemed to back up the claims. “It is true. Mr Banks is being investigated for links to our Government. These are completely false accusations. Mr Banks would never have colluded with us. That would have required us to give something in return. Instead, he is a useful idiot for us. He basically does what we want anyway so we may as well utilize this.”

Mr Banks has persistently denied allegations of his close links with the Russian Government. He made a trip to Moscow last year to visit the world famous Hermitage museum with his Russian born wife. Unfortunately Mr Banks got there to discover that one of the world’s most famous museums is actually in St Petersburgh.

Mr Banks was contacted for comment however he was in St Petersburgh visiting St Basil’s Cathederal.
