Working Mum-of-two Linda Green, 43, sorted, washed, dried and folded TWO full loads of laundry yesterday thanks to the heatwave that has swept through the North.

“I’ve never known anything like it,” a dazed Linda commented. “It was so hot one end of the washing line was almost dry by the time I’d finished hanging the rest at the other end.”

Temperatures have soared to the high 20s over recent days and are expected to carry on into next week. “I’ll get the same done again this morning. It’ll be the first time in years I’ve seen the bottom of the washing basket,” Linda continued.

Thrilled housewives all over the North are celebrating the sunshine, as sales of tumble driers look set to plummet.

“I never dreamed I’d be hanging out washing in a bikini in Barnsley, nor get so much washing done in a week. I might even have time for a bit of sunbathing this afternoon.”

A spokesperson for the Met Office warned washers to apply sunscreen before pegging out washing.
