Ambulance crews were called to an address in Wigan this morning after a local man suffered head injuries.

The man’s wife called 999 after her husband, who had been digging in his allotment, slipped on wet grass and fell onto his spade, the blade of which became lodged in his skull.

Paramedics rushed him to A&E where he was admitted.

The man, called Doug, is expected to make a full recovery.
