On an uncharacteristically serious note we’d like to thank each and every person who has donated or otherwise supported Paul’s campaign for The Refugee Council.

It’s been an astonishingly rubbish year for many people around the world. People have been displaced by war and famine on an almost unprecedented scale.

The Refugee Council was founded in 1951 in response to the UN Convention for Refugees, which was created after World War II to ensure refugees were able to find safety in other countries. Since then, the Refugee Council has provided practical and emotional support to refugees from across the world to help them rebuild their lives and play a full part in society.

You can still sponsor Paul’s Just Giving page here.

So thank you from The Rochdale Herald. Thank you from The Refugee Council, thank you from whichever prison Paul is sulking in.

And when you are tucking into your Christmas lunch tomorrow you can be reminded that a refugee somewhere will have some support, shelter and some food to eat thanks to your contribution.

And Golding will be eating tepid porridge with a plastic spoon.

Merry Christmas from all of us at The Rochdale Herald.
