Today sees the probable introduction of the new “Walter Mitty” law, which will make it a criminal offence for any individual to pretend to be a military veteran by wearing medals they have not earned themselves.

The new law will be punishable by up to six months in jail.

As part of the law, MPs have had to introduce a last minute exemption for members of the royal family who are the immediate relative of the serving monarch.

This amendment was rushed through when it was pointed out that royals poncing about at public events, wearing medals they had literally done nothing to deserve might be in breach as defined for other public imposters.
