After ten years everybody and their dog is still absolutely convinced that they know exactly what happened in the Maddie McCann tragedy in Portugal.

“It’s obvious innit?” said Terry McPeeder from Kent, “all the evidence that I haven’t got any access to whatsoever shows that Maddie’s parents killed her and staged the whole thing to cover it up. And the Spanish police are in on it!”

What the Spanish police were doing in Portugal he didn’t elaborate upon.

“I think that Muslim slave traders from Arabic took her,” said Margery Dullworthy of Rochdale, “There’s literally no other possibility, is there? Either that or aliens or something.”

“I don’t like them, the parents,” said Kristy Ballsend of Redbridge, “I heard that they make millions every year out of this so obviously they was the ones what done it otherwise why would they deliberately draw attention to themselves by periodically asking for more information from the public?”

Everybody we spoke to seemed to think they’d seen evidence of some kind although on further investigation what they meant was they’d read about it in a sensationalist British rag or watched some videos on YouTube.

“Everybody is simply wrong,” explained Eric Montague from Twatsgob-On-Sea, “My friend’s ex-girlfriend knows a bloke whose dog-groomer’s cousin is married to a bloke who did IT for a man who knows the wife of one of the hotel staff’s mother-in-laws and they said that the dad is a perv who lost his rag and that she’s buried under a hotel that was being built nearby. Everybody over there knows about it but they don’t want to lose the tourist trade so they keep schtum.”

Meanwhile, David Rembrandt of Norfolk told us that “Actually I have no opinion on the matter. I wasn’t involved in the investigation and I’ve only seen what journalists have to say about it and they also said that the fans were to blame for Hillsborough so I won’t be listening to them. I think that the only people who have any idea what really happened are the family, the police and whoever perpetuated whatever happened and in the first two cases they probably only have half the information and are only a little less ignorant of the full story than me. So I don’t and can’t know so it’s rather pointless giving the opinion of anybody in my situation any credence.”

Which is just ridiculous, isn’t it?
