A fire that has gutted a branch of Primark in Belfast has destroyed £5.50 worth of stock.
Primark manager, Shaughn O’Shaughnasseigh told us, “This fire is devastating. Our entire stock has gone up. That’s over a fiver worth of clothes just gone in a puff of smoke. It’ll be devastating for the community. The Primark was the social centre for many people.”
It’s rumoured that the DUP are going to launch an appeal for people to donate clothes to a fund they are helping set up until a new Primark can be built. Rochdale residents have already been giving generously but there has been some concern about the clothes some people have donated.
A spokesman said, “One person donated a Burnley FC top. These people have lost a Primark; they’re not desperate.”
One Belfast resident told us, “I was going to go there on Saturday to return all these clothes I bought last week. Now what am I going to do?”
It’s understood that a fund set up by the workers who make clothes for Primark has raised £2.50 for an appeal fund after 500 employees donated their entire annual wage to the fund
