Clinically depressed Phil Jones, 38, was found standing on the edge of Clifton Suspension Bridge after his wife had left him last Tuesday.

Mr. Jones wasn’t coping very well after the collapse of his rocky 6-year marriage and he had also stopped seeing his counsellor.

Luckily, Eileen Wilkinson, who’s been dubbed ‘The Angel of Bristol’ was walking her dog when she noticed a distressed Mr. Jones. She quickly went over to him in an attempt to get him to come to his senses.

After talking to a defiant Mr. Jones for more than an hour, non of her words seemed to be getting through to him.

“I didn’t know what to do” she said. “Everything I said just seemed to make things worse. Then I remembered that picture I’d seen on Facebook that I’d liked and shared so I decided to show it to him.”

The picture is of a calm lake with the words ‘Be strong’ in large white letters at the top and the smaller words ‘because things will get bet better. It may be stormy now, but it never rains forever.”

“It was like a miracle” she continued. “His face just lit up and he just started laughing.  Uncontrollable laughter! He hugged me and said ‘Thank you’ before climbing down to safety.”

Mr. Jones’ life has improved immensely since seeing the picture. He said; “I can’t thank Eileen enough. She saved me life. Not just then on that bridge but forever. I was in such a dark place, I’d never been so low but that picture just brought everything into perspective.  I can’t thank her enough.”

Since reading the quote, Mr. Jones has sacked his counsellor, thrown away his anti-depressants, had a promotion at work and has a new lady in his life.
