London-dwelling sanctimonious tax-avoider Bob Geldof has said he will return his Freedom of the City of Dublin.
Geldof, a remarkably rich registered non-dom who pays very little tax whilst complaining about how countries treat their poor, is protesting against the Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who also holds the award.
Mr Geldof said “her association with our city shames us all….I mean your city…if it were my city I would be registered here and pay tax….so your city…let’s be 100% clear about that.”
Mr Geldof, the musician and founder of Band Aid, said in a statement: “Her association with our city shames us all and we should have no truck with it, even by default. We honoured her, now she appalls and shames us …I mean you, Under advice from my Lawyers and Tax planners.”
He said he would hand back the award at City Hall in the Irish capital on Monday morning, while not at all being a massive show-pony.
