Canadian rock songstress Alanis Morisette has re-written her 1996 classic single “Ironic” after finally meeting a British person who filled her in on the meaning of the word irony.

“It came as a bit of a shock to be honest. I sold 30 million copies of that song and not one person pointed out to me that it was a song about being a bit inconvenienced and not irony. A bit ironic really, that’s right isn’t it?”

“I genuinely thought at the time that having loads of spoons when you needed a knife was ironic. I do feel a bit daft, I’m not going to lie.”

“Winning the lottery and dying the next day isn’t even unfortunate let alone ironic, you die rich and your family doesn’t have to worry about money. It’s quite a nice thought actually.”

The songwriter and producer is planning to rerelease a version of the song replacing the word “Ironic” with inconvenient.

“I mean come on, rain on your wedding day. That’s just weather.”

Inconvenient will be available to download on iTunes in January.
