The computer that produces the list of the most popular names given to babies each year has thrown up a remarkable result in its test report.

The leading girls names up to November 30th were Anaconda, Bresciola and Carpet.

“It’s remarkable ” said Dr Herman Dune of the Institute Of Nominal Studies “For the first time ever, the top 26 most popular names have never featured before. And they all start with a different letter.”

Computer technicians later explained that the issue had been resolved by switching the machine to “Print Popularity Report’ mode from ‘Random Alphabetic Word Generator’.

This restored a more familiar look to the list with the top three being Olivia, Sophie and Enid. However, Rochdale Mum to be, Kylie Specsaver (22) said she had been inspired by no. 24 on the original list.

“I’ve always liked the first name ‘Xenophobe’. It’s classy, innit?”
