The Rochdale Exchange shopping centre has announced new plans for disabled parking at their 800 space multi-storey car park, The Rochdale Herald can reveal.

“We’re all about people being treated equally”, said a spokesperson for the shopping centre, [and] “We want to lead the way when it comes to fair and equal treatment for disabled visitors to Rochdale and to our complex”.

At present, disabled parking at the centre is available on floors 3, 5, 7, and also at the GP level.

The Rochdale Exchange are looking to “mix things up a little bit”, by phasing out their current allocation of parking spaces for disabled badge holders and will instead, be scattering parking bays for disabled visitors randomly around their multi-storey.

“It’s the right thing to do”, their spokesperson went on to say. “You hear a lot about disabled people not being treated equally, so we’ve decided to do something about it and by implementing these new measures, blue badge holders can also share the experience of driving up and down and around in circles, looking for somewhere to park upon their visit”.

The plans have already been approved and are likely to be in place by late November, just in time for the run up to a very busy Christmas period.

The Rochdale Exchange have advised there will not be a reduction in the number of disabled parking spaces available. You’ll just have to look around a bit harder to find them.
